Empty hole above oil filter
Right above the oil filter there is what looks to be a vent but im not quite sure and im also kinda scared about dirt and water coming into the engine. So im wondering if anyone knows what it is any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Peter, could you possibly get a photo of the hole/vent and post it please.

Looks like an accessory oil port. Obviously closed off.

There is a gasket behind that plate that leaks sometimes. And yes that is where you would add a oil cooler if nesasary and when not using a cooler that plate just flows oil through. The source of that oil leak is most likely the oil pan gasket. The feed and return for the oil filter are right there and often leak with higher mileage LS engines at that spot.
