Default shifter on 2008 avalanche

Mechanic says shifter cable can't be adjusted properly because the column shifter is worn out. I took it in to have the shifter cable replaced. When I picked it up, it was very hard to shift from park & it won't go into low (1) gear. He is saying the column has to be replaced. i'm thinking there should be a part that just needs replaced not the whole column. Any advice/thoughts?

You might find a place that rebuilds them but you need to tear it down or replace it. Junk yard is your friend.

So the shifter is part of the column? Are there any replacement parts/ bushings?

Start taking it apart and see. Finding parts may be fun.

The shifter is its own assembly.

It looks like they are about $110.00

I can't see why a shop would want to replace the whole steering column with this part available . . . except they'd get to charge a bunch more for it.

I'm having trouble finding anything for a 2008 AV. Do they call it a shifter or do you have a part number?

Dorman 905-120 Steering Column Shift Mechanism

the mechanic seemed to think it wasn't a separate part. I wasn't happy with them so I wouldn't let them drop the column to look. i know things can happen but it was operating fine when I took it there and now it is hard to shift from park. should have just done it myself like I normally do. thanks for the help..

Did they have time alone to wrestle with it? They might have exacerbated it.

the second picture seems to be the correct part. Shift actuator 22833055. We'll see when it gets here!
