Problem after problem after redoing timing chain. Help!
I have a 1994 Chevrolet K2500 with the 7.4 L 454 TBI. Roughly 260k miles
About a month ago the truck just quit driving down the road. Ended up that my timing chain stretched and stripped the crank gear. Got the new gears and chain put on and had everything aligned. Took it to a shop and had them run a timing check since we had pulled the distributor out to check it. Timing was good, except for the fact that the shop had a "random misfire" they could not diagnose. (Steady fire, then intermittent, then lack of. Kept changing constantly, but they were able to get a timing read)
I took the truck home from the shop. After more fighting with it, i finally got a new distributor and put that in today. First time i was able to get the truck out of the driveway in almost a month. However, i am still having some problems with it.
Here'* what i've found today with the new distributor:
Rough Idle, though the truck gets a bit worse under power. When it shifts at 45 and settles back to 1900rpms, the whole truck shakes. Not violently, but enough to cause concern. (My bug shield on my hood bounces)
White smoke out the tailpipe (which could be 100 things.)
Lack of power under throttle. Still has some, but not what she had before the timing chain went out.
No concerning engine noise (no audible clicks that would alert to anything interior)
I still have to get it in to be properly timed yet, but i am starting to wonder if i have a bent rod or valve. I know timing can cause issues, but it seems like the shaking alone would point to something more than just the timing being a hair off.
i don't know with this truck anymore. It'* been sitting broke down in my driveway for a month. I lost my job because of it, and now i don't know where to go with this truck. The stress alone is getting to me.
Another small piece of info, in case it helps. Before the timing chain went out, i had an audible click in the motor. It sounded like the valve lash needed to be adjusted so i didn't think much of it. However, now that everything is running again, the click is gone. I have no idea if that will mean anything, but it'* there if it helps.
i have a check engine light on, but i do not have a scanner. Nor will i be able to get to one until Monday. Looking for things i can check/fix over the weekend, so i am not stuck for another weekend without any transportation.

Um, if your engine was running when the timing gear stripped out, you more than likely bent some rods or worse, bent some valves.

Thats what i'm afraid of. I'm going to take it in Monday for a compression test. If it is a bent rod, i'll fix those. If it'* a bent valve, this truck is going to the sale forum.
