Ignition Switch?

Starter keeps rolling after releasing key, and does not start. Hello, I have a 2004 Yukon XL, SLT, 5.3L with 160k on it. The truck runs great, and does not have any codes showing. This was an intermittent problem, but is getting worse, and is happening every time now. I think it is likely the ignition switch, but would like some second opinions before I order one. As I said, when I hit the key to start the engine, it just keeps rolling over, and does not start, and I have to turn the key to the off position to stop the starter motor. After the second or third attempt it starts fine, and runs perfectly. The part I am planning on ordering is called a " Genuine Ignition Lock Cylinder ", but I am not sure if it actually has the electrical contacts in it, or are those in another part?
Thanks for reading, and supplying any comments.
Les

Try turning the key to run postion a couple of times. Then try starting it. If it starts the first time. I would say its the check valve in the fuel sending unit.

Hi Blazer, I have tried that many times. It does not make a difference. The other thing is that it keeps rolling over, even though I have released the key, and keeps rolling over until I turn the key all the way to the off position.

How long will it keep doing it? It should stop after so many seconds of not seeing it has started. If it dosent stop i would deffinately say it prolly need a ignition switch. The ignition switch should have the contacts in it. I am pretty sure that year vehicle dosent have a coded key. It just reads that the ignition has turned. If it dosent read it will not start. If it does have a coded key then you will have to take the key that comes with the new switch and the old key to the dealer and have one cut with the right code.

It is a plain old key as far as I know. I do have the key fob to lock and unlock the doors. On the picture of the new lock cylinder it does not show new keys, but I suppose it must come with keys. Here is a link to the new part:

Has anyone else had this problem ?
Thanks

I just checked it out. Thats only the cylinder. You are prolly going to need to the switch that that goes into.

Adding my $0.02, rjblazer's got you covered. I just replaced the cylinder and it only covers the key fitting. The switch itself, that the key cylinder fits into, has the springy part that should be returning you from the start position when you let go of it to only the on/run position.

Hi All
I have taken the vehicle in and had it hooked up for a scan.
Codes are
PO171 : Bank 1 Too Lean.
PO174 : Bank 2 Too Lean
PO446 : EVAP Vent Control Problem
Found Fuel Pump isn't holding pressure, and has low pressure while running.
I have been quoted
Fuel pump module : $620
2.5 hrs labour : $ 190
plus 12 % HST

Does this sound like a correct analysis?
Fuel filter is inside the tank in the fuel pump module.
I can get the same pump for $500 plus tax, and am considering doing the job myself. I have done a few tanks and fuel pumps in my day, but was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on difficulty level, or problems that might be encountered. Also are there any suggestions on the EVAP problem.
The key does still act funny, but I do not think that is causing any problems right now.
Thanks
Les

The low fuel pump pressure would explain the 2 lean codes.

I'm not familiar with the Yukons, but I have done it 2x on my 2000 Blazer. If you can, run her dry as possible if your going to do this yourself. I don't blame you if you do it yourself. That's alot of money just to drop 2 straps to drop a tank.

If you do it wourself there is a evap connection on the end of the take that you got to watch out not to break. The first one i did i broke it. It is a evap line connection.
