Default Chevy 5.7 engine and trans rebuild

I am currently rebuilding a 93' K1500 with a 5.7L into a somewhat daily driver, and an off road and towing vehicle when needed. I would like to have something better then a standard build. What does everyone recommend for the motor and tranny? I attached a picture of the truck.

Depends on how far you want to go with this project. Some fundamental questions:

What is your budget?

How crazy do you want to go?

What restrictions do you have such as emissions laws etc.?

Budget ? …. not sure yet, really haven't made one

Crazy? …. Not too much

Emission Laws? …. after 25 yrs in NC they only check for safety, other then that mainly exhaust convertors

So . . . you can keep the transmission the same if it works well currently, then add small stuff to get a little more from the engine. Intake, exhaust, etc.

Is anything wrong with the engine right now?

Nothing is currently wrong with the motor. With the motor, and tranny, being 25 years old and having a lot of miles on them, I am looking at getting the rebuilt for safety reasons and to up upgrade them.

Why not just drop a ready built into it?

That is one of my options …… going standard or going to a higher torque and power motor

Get a 5.3 Vortec engine, matching trans, ECU and harness. Those 250hp 5.7'* are just that, 5.3'* have more HP.

How many miles on them? If they're running well, I can't see a safety issue as long as the normal tune-up stuff is done (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.). Maybe for extra reliability change the crank sensor so it won't surprise you for a long time.
