If your thinking of a direct drop in replacement. I highly doubt it. Questions you need to ask first.
1. Will the engine mate to the transmission?
2. Will the current PCM run the diesel engine?
3. Will the engine fit in the engine bay, meaning, will it fit even with custom brackets?
And I'm sure there are so many more details.

Why do you prefer diesel engine anyway?

yeah...this is what i want to say... i want to change it cuz Gasoline is very expensive here in my country ... So I dont know you can help me to change engine to diesel, If not I'm ready to use the "Maserati Quattroporte 2.8 V6 Bi-Turbo" Gasoline Engine, But i don't know if this engine will mate to the jimy's automatic transmission.
And...

Please I need Your help!
Thank you so much

diesel swaps are very involved, you need new tanks, pumps lines, lots of other things, and being that the car you have never had a diesel option it makes all those things very difficult. not to mention the phyiscally not being able to bolt to the trans or flywheel. and the truck has an electronically controlled trans so if you put something not desighned for that vehicle the pcm will not be able to control the trans. the only thing you could do is a complete swap (engine/trans/transfer case/wiring/pcm) from another vehicle. and have the outputs from the donor t-case fabricated to adapt them to the differentials on your jimmy

how about propane or natural gas prices?

domenico May 13, 2013 11:23 AM

thank you; for the natural gas price is ok, so you told me that is very difficult to use the diesel engine ...what about the maserati's gasoline one "2.8 V6 Biturbo"??

Look here Compare cars...
6000 KW of power !!!

Jimmy engine is :Electronic Injection but the maserati is :Multipoint Injection ??

they call it the fuel injector spider here, technically CPI. central port. kinda like a old deisel. Im not very happy with it makes the truck run very poorly. they have a retro-fit kit from delphi though i put on mine its MPFI, basicaly the same configuration with the tubes but has individual injectors at the end of each tube.

as far as the 2.8 they didnt have anything like that here so no idea if it would swap. i think if the natural gas is good you might research changing it to that. changing engines to different engines not from gm is going to be a hassle. you can change it to a truck 5.3 pretty easy that will get you a couple more mpg and quite a bit more power. but if its because gas prices are bad its not more efficent enough to pay to do it. people mainly do it for the power

So can we say that is impossible to place the maserati quattroporte 2.8 V6 engine on the Jimmy?
