Default 86 Chevy Scotsdale distributor wiring prob?

green wire

same wire

same wire again
86 Chevy scotsdale. Came with a 305 H series stock engine. I replaced the stock 305 with this ( 350 summit crate engine and carb.) There were several wires coming threw firewall that we didn't need with this engine and they capped them off. I never noticed this green wire before and don't know if I need it or can I just cap it off. This engine has been in my truck for 3 or 4 years now and I feel this wire was stuck into a plug somewhere and has slipped out of where ever. My mechanic died so there'* no going to him for information. All gauges and fans and everything seems to be working properly. Can yall help me with finding where this green wire goes? Thanks a lot Big Nick

Cap it. I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for your answer. I forgot to mention it is a hot wire. How could I have missed this wire this long? I keep it clean in that area. It is dangerously close to so many ground out things and it just showed up. I'm hoping to find out what it might have been connected to.It must have come loose from somewhere. I do have my cap ready though.

Need to know where it connects. Lots of green wires in there.

Your right, Im looking at some wiring diagrams I found on internet last night. Only green wire its showing goes to water temp thermostat. My temp gauge is working properly, the dash gauge is brand new. I'm going to keep looking but it is now capped. I found this wire loom place and it has MUCH wire needs there. You probable know about it. I think I saw it on a thread you were talking to. https://www.wiringproducts.com/ . I'll keep looking for the green wire problem of mine. I'll let yall know what I find. Thanks again Big Nick.

I'm betting this wire was added. If it was factory it would likely travel a similar path as some other wires.

It mite travel with other wires. I have most wires running threw taped up wire looms and I cant follow my wires as well as I would like. I been thinking about getting some better looms and follow out my wiring . I have kinda looked around for that but there aren't any green wires or wires of that dia. covered up with looms. There are several junction plugs in the looms but nothing that color or that heavy
