Default 2022 Canyon DRL

Vehicle is a 2022 GMC Canyon AT4. Issue is daytime Running Lights.

GMC schematic indicates the LED strips above and below the headlights to be “Daytime Running Lights”. They are so labeled on the schematic. They do not operate that way. The headlights are on and dimmed as daytime running lights. How do I correct that condition to make the LED strips the functional daytime running lights?

From your manual:

I don't see where it indicates that DRLs are the LED strips. Can you show us what you are referencing?

Understand your question as the MANUAL describes the DRL function to be the dimmed low beam headlights. The SCHEMATIC for the vehicle identifies the LED strips as being DRL but the vehicle does not use them that way. My wish is to use the LED strips as DRL and not the dimmed headlights. I am asking if anyone can help to do this. If you have access to the vehicle schematic the LED'* are identified under lighting on page 2-29.

Do you have a wiring diagram or can you get one?
We just need to be sure the load is the same for both and if so you just need to wire it direct. I'm not sure how it will react since led'* have a different coefficient than the halogen or other bulbs and I'm not sure if the module will like it.

Doesn't it turn them on when you put it in Drive?

If not, when does it turn them on (in the factory configuration)?

If it does turn them on when you put it in Drive, then your desire would be accommodated by disabling the DRL headlights and just leaving the LED strips doing their thing.

Just a word to the wise: Keep your warranty in mind as you do stuff to this vehicle.

I have further explored settings and manipulation of the lighting controls on this GMC Colorado truck. I explored the effect of moving the exterior lamp control **** to the extreme left position which appears to be a momentary contact position. This action does not change the condition of the LED strip lights (above and below the headlights). It does appear to change the daytime condition of the low beam headlight (in a dimmed condition). It appears that in most cases where the side marker lamps are on the LED’* come on except in the turn signal mode. Pressing the center of this lighting control simply turns on ALL the front lights including the lower front (fog?) lights.

In no case can I cause the LED strips to come on as the only lamp on the front of the truck. (DRL condition) I tested with the truck pulled against a heavy bush with the transmission in drive, the engine idling and the doors both open and closed. (the conditions of driving down the road)

On page 102 of the MANUAL it indicates that the automatic headlight system switches from DRL to headlamps when it gets dark (light sensor function). This indicates that the labeling on the SCHEMATIC is in conflict with the MANUAL.

What I want to know is how to change that.

I have the schematic (see below) but I have no information about the signals that came from the Body Control Module that appears to control all these functions. For this reason I do not have sufficient information to accomplish the changes I desire.

Note the identification of the diode symboled lamps in each headlight assembly

I don't know what kind of heavy bush we are talking about, but some kind of mirror, another person, or the glass window of a business or similar would give me more confidence in knowing if they are turning on or not. If they truly are not coming on at all then it sounds like a warranty repair is in order.

I pulled it against the bush so I could get out of the truck with it running in drive to closely observe the lights directly.

Ah, okay so you know they're off and the manual describes that they should be on. Warranty time.

Expect that is the only possibility for change.
Might take a bit of time before I can get it to a dealer and I will post whatever the story becomes.
Somehow i don't expect much.

Thanks to all for the conversation
