2007 GMC Yukon XL 1500- how to clear theft lock on radio
Hello,
I recently broke my BOSE NAV/DVD head unit trying to do surgery on it trying to remove the NAV disc that was stuck inside... which is potentially turning out to be a very expensive error on my part.
The part code for my head unit, located in the glove box, says UVB. Part number on the original radio is 15940102.
I searched car-part for used radios located near me. It asked what option I have:
With Voice Recognition, option U3U.... or without Voice Recognition option UVB.
Now, I don't recall ever using voice recognition in my vehicle but I'm almost certain I have it based on the steering wheel buttons I have and OnStar. However, my part identifier in the glove box clearly says UVB so that'* what I purchased.
When the used radio came in, it had a different part number on the radio that what I had originally. Part number on the used radio was 1582766. I this point I called the dealer and gave them my VIN and part # from used radio to confirm it was compatible. They said the part # 1582766 was superseded by part # 15940102 but they are essentially identical radios. So I installed the used radio and now I have THEFT LOCK displayed on my unit.
Yesterday I take my vehicle in to the local GM dealer to scan and clear the THEFT LOCK. Well, they fought with it for over an hour then told me it couldn't be done. First they said the part number was wrong on the used radio. Then they said because i had NAV that my radio could not be "reflashed" with my VIN. They tried to say I need a radio that had been previously "wiped clean" so they could flash to my VIN. All for the low price of $1800.
Now I read somewhere on the inter webs that GM engineering had an issue with this roughly 10 years ago and sent out a TSB about it with a work around. I believe the TSB was- #PIT4007D: Radio Displays LOCKED After SPS Programming - (Aug 11, 200
. I cannot find anything about this TSB on the web and I don't have the resources the dealer has to look this up. I'm not sure if TSB'* stay around for 10 years or not. Apparently you can use a Tech II and go through multiple steps, one of which was listed the vehicle type as a Monte Carlo. This was part of the work around listed in the TSB, allegedly anyways.
The dealer I used is saying that'* BS and my radio can NOT be unlocked. But my wishful thinking has me thinking otherwise.
If anyone knows of this issue, PLEASE let me know what I can do. This whole situation is a bummer.
Thanks for reading
