Default 2004 Canyon what smells like it'* burning?

I was delivering mulch around Columbus Saturday in my Z71 crew cab and did maybe 5 loads of 25-30 bags -so maybe 900 pounds a load.

I noticed a burning rubber smell after I think the second delivery and when I opened the hood it definitely smelled under there. The temperature gauge was not higher than normal, if at all.

On the way home with an empty bed I no longer smelled anything at stop lights and by the time I got home the smell was gone.

I noticed the same smell a few weeks ago carrying a dresser that maybe only weighed 250 pounds.

Anyone have a guess as to what'* causing the smell?

Check the belt tensioner. Could be allowing the belt to slip under increased RPM and/or increased fan load . . . ?
