Default 09 sierra o2 wire

hello, have a 09 sierra had a code come up for the o2 sensor, I inspected the wireing befor removing and found that 2 wires were almost worn through, bare wire rubbing against frame, I did remove sensor and just wanted to know if I could splice new wire in and test some how out of the truck before installing?
thanks

You can check to see how many mV its putting out using a digital multimeter and maybe your stove top burner. Don't hold the O2 directly in the flame, but just a couple inches above it. You should see your readings fluctuate as you pass the O2 sensor over the heat. As far as the built in heater, you could OHM it out, but I don't know what values you should be seeing.
