Default You think she'll blow?

Well dudes, i've owned my bonneville for some time now... and the motor/tranny swap has been a year now.... over. They've rolled over 200k, and the trans is weird, good, but bad. Motors worn, but runs strong. The whole thing is, i've put about 5k on this car in this crappy condition... motor worn and after a whole day of beating struggles with the starts... but she'll always be there after a minute.. weird. The tranny, that'll shift fine under WOT at 5500. Otherwise it'll need the gas let off every single time... what a retard... weird. So, i've been thinking... i'm not going to replace a perfectly reliable powertrain... i'm going to fix it when it'* dead in the water.

This is where my experimentation goes. 200k, i'm sure beat all thru it'* life.. and beat hard now... how much abuse can she take? I've started the abuse with some hardcore 5.8k gov hits... some revving the **** outta it and hitting the gov running ~30sec in 0* temps to get the heat going... and damn does it work good. Then just gassing it everywhere.. letting it rev out hard anytime i'm on it. Tranny'* clutches are all good, 3rd band is weak, and under wot it works freaking great. And i'm getting 19mpg avg beating the **** outta it... so what kinda mileage you guys think she can take of this? I've been doing this for ~500mi, or since the weekend. Mobil one oil... napa spin flow filter, and some fresh everything fluid... she'* probably been well taken care of... driving like this i've killed 2qts in the week, most all from weekend, i use about 1qt/mo until now.

With all that beating I think you can't expect it to not blow.

I'll know when she feels rough for a few days after a beating that'* too far... everytime i fire her up in the morning she starts fresh... weeeird things worn out parts do dudes... anyways... s2 swap anyone? how about this guy <--

Its an LN3 man. Built like a brick friggin house. Mine ran perfect at 5200 shifts, just SCREAMED, smooth as hell.

She may actually NOT blow. The only thing I can think of that might happen is to loose the cam magnet from the high revs and that'll **** yah off.

But other than that...I personally know someone with an LN3 with 400k now. Still sounds amazing. Original trans too., going out finally, but hey, we'd hope so by now.

She may or may not blow...but if its showing any signs....something may just bite the dust.

id expect that trans to blow to pieces before the engine.

it was owned by an old lady before me and i put about 30k of abuse on it with no major issues.....

This isn't a mechanical issue. Moved.

The tranny is def kicking out, it shifts all weird all the time... idk why, don't care either. And if you brake torque it the torque convertor doesn't hook up until 3k... it def is not the clutches... it'* all tq...

After A few governor bounces she runs a bit hotter and the oil pressure at idle is barely 20... and 35-40 any other time... and I have a 600rpm idle. So she'* good for a few... I'm seeing how long it'll take before she screams mercy. And that cam magnet is stuck on there good.. i've always revved the motor like this, just never frequently.

WJ: the bad noises you heard? Mine did that too, it'* that GM motor that doesn't want to rev that high sound? Yeah, that went away after about 20 times LOL

Oh yeah, did I mention i'm running mobil syn blend? Yeah, let'* do this ****.

My last motor'* timing chain went, and made a mess of the rods... but the oil pump screen was all gunked up afterwards... so i think she had oil starvation problems... and that motor had 50k less.

ehhh, not necessarily BAD noises...she just made a bit of noise still ran perfectly smooth though.

as of 145k IIRC

so yeah....

definitely your transmission is gonna kick the bucket before the engine.

Another 650mi... two tanks of gas, @ 22mpg. That'* at least 75% racing style of driving motor revving wise... she stopped using oil this tank, last tank I got 20mpg, and used 2qts of oil.. this one I got 22 and used none. Interesting... seems as though engine is toughening up for the battle of service life. Tranny slips cold, still will hook up 99% at operating temp. Cold is also 0* days with 3btls of lucas and 3 qts of max life tranny fluid [ghetto man'* rebuild].

Very interesting experiment.

Cue 'this thread is worthless without pics/vids' gif.
