And that is the beauty of differing opinions.

Considering how dirty and grimy the underside is on both pictures, I could care less which looks nicer. It'* like when I see someone with $1K chrome rims put on a rusty old 80'* Monte Carlo. It'* just a waste of money.

Would the aluminum pan even fit a Series I?

I've gotten used to seeing "B", so I'll go with that. A few years back, a friend hit an ice chunk with a '93. Took out fhe oil filter. If the pan doesn't get you - the oil filter will. That'* another reason I like the 2000+, getting the longer filter and still having it tucked up enough to be relatively safe.

Exhibit A, STEEL crankshaft-catcher: You can really get creative with one of these and have it painted up nice. Maybe candy-apple red with green racing stripes, or maybe candycane stripes. Or how about a mural of your car on it? You could drive around with a creeper in your trunk and when you stopped at 7-11 for a monster you could get the creeper out and invite passers-by to crawl under there and have a look.

Exhibit B, ALUMINUM crankshaft-catcher: You absolutely want to take the time & effort to polish this bad boy. Might delay use of your car for a month or so, but would be well worth it. You could drive around with a creeper in your trunk and when you stopped at 7-11 for a monster you could get the creeper out and invite passers-by to crawl under there and have a look.

Just like when I'm voting in political elections, I vote for them all.

Might give you issues on an S1 because of the oil lines.

I like "B" myself, but I am easily distracted by neat looking, shiney things. Also, I tend to actually clean underneath my car a couple of times each year. I understand nobody ever sees it, but it is very theraputic for me

I'd take B for the gasket, and after hearing never-ending stories of Bill'* old oil pan.

I wouldn't have been ambitious enough to polish it though.
