winters around the corner...

anything that should be doen to "winter-ize" our cars?

and ALSO how in the !^%@#!%@ do i get heat out of the dash (middle) vents??

^GREAT engineering pontiac

glorkar 10-13-2004 05:54 PM

just hit the mode button until the little arrow thing is pointing to the middle of the seat. If the temp you select is higher than the current temp in the car, you'll get warm air.

SSEi_MN 10-13-2004 06:26 PM

no i belive 94s didnt come that easy.

SSEimatt93 10-13-2004 07:39 PM

lol..the only time your centre vents will work is when you lower the temp to Air cond.
I dis-liked that about my 93 as well..as far as heat you have floor heat and windsheild heat.
Winter time..if its cold enough..like up here we can get -30 to -40 F, a 195 thermostat will help, i also used to put cardboard in the grill..anything to help. Winter tires helped out alot, as well as a working ABS system. Change the oil to 5w30 if its going to be below 20 F..the thiner stuff will circulate much better on inital cold start up. Winter washfluid is nice too and winter wipers. Snow brush/scraper in the trunk..lock deicer on hand..working block heater.
Yeah. Im from Alberta!
:D

Does anyone here buy a winter beater instead of exposing their Bonneville to the harsh elements of winter? I am thinking about doing this and have started looking around.

Twister97 10-13-2004 08:58 PM

If I had a Rolls Royce I would buy a winter beater.

opensourceguy 10-13-2004 09:02 PM

I'm in the market for a winter beater.. 84-90 VW Golf diesel 5spd. My bonnie means the world to me.. and I want to keep her intact.. and just beat on the golf. And get 40mpg at the same time

wow pontiac lost a cool point on that one. WHY would they do that???

thanks.

ssesc93 10-13-2004 09:34 PM

I think you have to put it on AUTO and a certain temperature in order for the vent to be on for the olde ECC. I know in 95 they changed it to MODE for your own selection of blower choices.

BonEvilSSEi 10-13-2004 10:38 PM

hmmm winter preps....open garage door drive Bonne into garage, close garage door....drive Buick.....winter preps done..........oh i forgot, put bridgestone all seasons back on Buick and take off torquestars with dunlops.

I've got a friend who's selling a '91 SHO for $1000 obo. If you're interested, give him a call at 920/460-1113. His name is Chris. Tell him Jeremy told you about it.

razorade 10-14-2004 06:38 PM

I appreciate the offer but that is too pricey of a winter beater for me (plus it's a Ford :)). I don't have a ton of money to work with so I am just hoping to get something cheap that will at least last me one winter.

glorkar 10-14-2004 10:00 PM

That's understandable. I can't even afford to look at winter beaters.

opensourceguy 10-14-2004 10:18 PM

I can't even afford to look at my own car.. and I own it..

Its beyond me why they would..but the digital numbers are sure cool to look at lol.
The old style dial ones are better IMO..less electronic problems..i had a some issues with mine only blowing the AC on the windshield...not effective in 90 degrees LOL

I'm thinking about it. We use a lot of salt here in the Cleveland area in the winter. If I can find a beater under a grand that passes emissions(yeah it stinks) and will get me around to and from work, I will grab it.
