I live in the Boston area and you all must know how brutal the winters can be here. How do these cars perform in the snow with the stock 17" tires on, i have no tire manufactureres that offer a winter tire in this size. I am considering buying a set of 16" wheels for the winter if needed as there are winters available to fit 16". what do you all think? Thanks for all replies.

Any all season tires will not work as well as getting Snow tires.

Sense you live in a Snow state. i would highly recumend (if you have the $) to get another set of 16" or 17" wheels and put some snow tires Front and Back.

First off... let'* get a couple things straight.

The brakes would need to be changed to accomodate a 16" wheel. Bandit..he'* saying after some checking that no one makes a snow tire in that size.

Gumball and Toasted live in the Boston area and drove their cars all winter. Neither really said much about poor traction issues.

I dont care what people say or think about all season tires working fine in the snow in MA or where ever. Snow tires make a HUGE difference and it is much safer to drive with them

i will never go back to using normal tires again in the winter.

Actually no Gumball. 4 do make a difference over 2. The tires nowerdays grip so much better that when you only have all seasons in the back the backend will come loose way before the front. I didn't beleive the sales guy last year myself and managed to beak the backend loose several times; even the slow-going wife noticed it. So this year we'll be adding the other two.

As for tires, I know Greendiamondtires usually has them in 17'**, depending on stock, and my co-worker and Tallbump, love them. I have GlacialGrips (I forget who makes them)

*looks like they are currently out of stock, but if you have 4 old 17'* in the garage they can use yours at a substantial savings.

is this an SE? Because SE'* dont have bigger brakes in the 00+ generation. Only the SSE/SSEi trim levels do.

If its an SE, I would think that 16 inch wheels will fit just peachy.

There are also certain 16 inch wheels that clear 12 inch brakes just fine on the W-body cars, but I do not know if that applies to the Bonneville or not.

16'* will fit fine over 00+'* brakes. Thats what the Bullet and Pdad run their slicks on.
