Okay, so I've had this car for exactly one month on Wednesday. And overall it is one sweet ride, however, I've already had the windshield replaced because of a large crack and this morning a teeny tiny itty bitty little rock hit the damn thing and took a huge chuck out of it! This is my fourth car and I've never had any trouble with the windshield before this one. Are these Bonneville windshields weak or something :?:

How fast were you moving when the windsheild got hit? My windsheild is 13 years old, and got hit with a rock the other day.

No, actually the windshields are structural glass, meaning that they provide support ..adding to strength of the overall body.

It'* luck of the draw. Since it'* being replaced, the night before or when the window guy gets there, hit it with a hammer.

Not a wimpy hammer or rubber mallet. But hammer. You will notice if you strke it flat, it will not crack and take one heck of a blow.

I was going about 45-50mph. It must have been one hell of a rock, the sound it made when it smacked the windshield was deafening! And in itself I wouldn't be that upset, but I've just replaced the whole windshield two weeks ago! And I just know this thing is gonna spread like wildfire when the Florida sun bakes it.

sounds like its time to add glass coverage to your insurance, wait 2 weeks and then claim it.

but uhh, hah, thats odd, i mean my windshield is goin on 18 years old and it does not have one crack. just a few knicks from hail.

maybe the glass they installed was like...eh low quality?

Smack it to understand what it takes. I've done this and you might hit a window as hard as you reasonably can 20 times before cracking it.

From the sounds of the rock that hit.. "deafening sound", I personally would take that into account before wondering about the quality of the window. My thought is.. would that rock have sent you to the hospital if the window didn't stop it?.. Most likely.

Do you know where it came from? ie, fell off a truck, out from under a mower, etc?

I don't know what other vehicles you have owned, but a car sits lower to the ground and has a higher chance of being struck on the windshield due to it sitting lower to the ground

While this would seem true.. My 00 silverado had 5 windshields in it'* first 2 years of life.
