As much as I'd like more power and better handling, I need to get from A to B reliably- so reliability/cleanliness is tops for me. So far my SSE'* handling has surprised me, in cases where my Mark VIII felt like it was on its tippy toes, the Bonne stays flat. Must be the "Wide Track Attack"

*before I got my SSE I drove a '97 SE with 130K, was in great shape, felt like a limp noodle vs the SSE.

To my reliability was the most important since I'm somewhat of a family man. What ever category that was in I voted for it. I'm into acceleration, apperance and handling, reliability is number 1. It doesn't matter how fast or good it looks or handles, if it keeps breaking down.

I also think that age group to a certain extent makes a difference on people'* choices.

You sit in near dead stop traffic most of your time in the car.

You need a good reliable heating and AC system.

A/C is a must in the South!! I need reliability, handling, comfort, acceleration, then appearance.

I like my car to look good, be quick enough, and comfortable

Yeh, it'* only money and you only live once.

My personal priorities are:
1: reliable (It just has to work every time)
2: handling (You can steer your way out of most situations. It'* fun.)
3: brakes (Go without slow is just trouble.)
4: acceleration (Fun)
5: appearance (Form follows function)

I am more in the handling camp myself. A good handling car will get you out of some pretty hairy situations.

However I agree with Lash in that this culb mnakes you want to do cosmetic mods and go fsaster.

reliability first and formost, this is one of the top reasons to get a car anyway, all that other stuff follows right behind that,
