Default What type of oil should I get for my 193,000 mile car?

I am gettting my tune up next Saturday and I was speaking with Kennginn on what to get. I made a suggestion on getting some synthetic oil and he said no, get the high mileage oil. I didnt think it was a problem geting synthetic but he mention, by me having high mileage and not knowing how the car was cared for, you might want to start with high mileage. I said ok. But I love synthetic. I don't want to be hard headed or anything but whats your facts?

I run Valvoline Max Life in the LSS. It seems good and doesn't tarnish at all.

most definatally do not run synthetic in that motor, it most likely will start leaking, i know mine did at 153K. With yours I would run 10w30 Valvoline or equivilant. Non synthetic oil will take good care of your motor if you change it regularly. I used Quaker state in mine actually, no problems till i changed over to mobil 1 higher mileage. That stuff is to expensive to leak out all over! lol.

If the car has had synthetic its whole life, then it would be fine, I would think. Other than that, maybe switch to high milage oil.

My GP used synthetic for it'* whole 90,000 mile life. It still uses it with no leaks.

You are better off with the cheapest 10W30 you can find, assuming you change it more often than necessary - at least every 2500 miles or so. Better not to use full synthetic on any higher mileage car you could use a synthetic blend though (often marketed toward higher milage cars).
