Do you have an extra tranny cooler installed? That will help tremendously!! Even on an SE.

You'd better believe they were all under warranty!

The original transmission was junk, pure and simple. It would go into overdrive, stay there for 10 seconds (or 30, however long it took for the computer to see the transmission was slipping) and then drop back into 3rd gear until the car was restarted. Had the dealership replace it (with a used transmission, those cheap bastards). This second transmission won't go into overdrive if I've been driving in 3rd gear for more than 30 seoncds or something, I never nailed down the exact cause of it. I have my third tranmission sitting at work waiting for a day when I can put it in, I just haven't had time to yet.

The dealership never spent any time diagnosing my problem, they sent me to a transmission shop who diagnosed it as a junk transmission. I have no idea how much diagnosing they actually did.

I think that the only cause of these problems have been bad transmissions. If I had a brand spanking new transmission in my car, I would know exactly how it had been maintained and driven and would have a better idea of the cause of my problems. But since these have been used transmissions, I have no idea what their history is.

Finally an update --

I replaced the transmission yesterday. This new transmission shifts smoother, but I still have the same problem where if I'm in third gear for more than 15-30 seconds I can't get to overdrive.

Any thoughts? I think the next step is to hook up my scan tool and spend some time watching sensors and such while having somebody else drive.

If it'* doing the same thing as all the previous trannies. I think you'll find the PCM is doing something goofy. I doubt you'd get that many bad ones in a row.
