This was towed in the other day, apparently it caught fire while the owner was in the grocery store:

looks like it started near the battery. Then all hell broke loose... the whole shop smells of burnt plastic

Stuff like that happens when you don't keep your engine bay clean. Leaves, grim, oil, grease. All it needs is heat.

Looks like a normal W body fire to me. GM has recalled the W bodies for valve cover gaskets, removing the spark plug wire holder and the exhaust manifold shield. The supposed cause is the oil that builds up under the manifold and catches fire.

Odd how the fire seemed to have started at the fuse box isn't it? All of them look that way.

I agree with Bill. Very typical of those bodies. Some have pointed to the fusebox but I think its a matter of it being in the right place at the wrong time. i.e., it had nothing to do with the fire, but it'* location puts it in the fray of the fire.
