From what I've heard, octane boost is a barely-working substitute. Bite the bullet and get premium if you love the car.

If you must use regular in a supercharged engine, drive the car like your grandmother would — don't floor it. And even then, be careful.

I definitely agree. I tried regular long ago (once) and the performance goes to crap especially a wot. Chattering lifters and all. I have seafoamed the engine and barely got a puff of smoke which I contribute to using premium. When I have felt the need to compromise it was usually half premium and half regular.

So basically, if you want to compromise, just use mid grade. I know that the Series II was a vast improvement over the Series I, but what is so different?

I agree that just using Premium is the way to go but some Octane Boost products are quality with good results. I friend of mine has a 442 W-30 making a good 600hp and he runs octane boost from the gas station and he is the biggest motor head ive ever met. He actually has built a Truck out of wood and drives it around. He has a winch system that tilt the entire cab forward to get in and out. So if he uses it i could bet that there are good results

Aside from the obvious horse power increase there are lots of mods available for the Series II and few for the Series I. Don't get me wrong though, I am very happy with my Series I. It'* what the car came with and it performs extremely well for a car its size. I am not trying to race it but I have lots of fun and I get decent mileage when I'm not standing on the gas. The engines are well made to begin with and when properly tuned and maintained these cars outperform most cars in their class. When you start modding the fun really begins but that is the main limitation on the Series one. Its more about how well you maintain what you have. I saw a 95 SSEI today and with one glance I knew that it wasn't well maintained so regardless of the engine the performance would suffer.
Without out modifications there would still be a horsepower advantage for the Series II over the Series I but a well maintained Series I could own a poorly maintained Series II so there is no absolute unless all other things are equal. As for me in particular, I like the fact that the 95 is a hybrid.

I honestly haven't tracked them for quite some time. I can tell you this though, I have the 95 Bonnie with the SC Series I and the 94 Park Avenue N/A and the biggest difference in mileage comes from the way that I drive the Bonnie vs the PA. The supercharger begs you to drive a little more aggresively while the PA tends to make you want to sit back and enjoy the ride. One is Superman while the other is Clark Kent. One has a nice low rumble while the other is so quiet that you can barely tell its running when your stand beside it. All that aside, if they are both driven conservatively the mileage difference is neglible.

I've never heard them been compared quite like that. Very nice...
