Default What to do?

What'* up BC, my dealership advised that I have a bad gasket on my upper intake manifold and would cost me $490. parts & labor before my 10% discount to fix.

My guy that works on my car said that I so replace the manifold as well as the gasket. He would do the work for me for alot less but I just have to get the parts.

Should I buy the parts new from the dealership which would cost about $200. for both the manifold & gasket or can it be purchased used from like a pick & pull? Is this a part that I should buy new & not used?

I also saw one on ebay for $55. Any idea if that would be a good place to get this part?

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks for the link jdq, WOW, my guy did say that this is a BIG problem
with the 3800 but I didn't think it was that BIG of an issue.

Do I need to change the bottom intake just as a precaution?

Go with the APN upper, and yes - do the LIM gasket, using the aluminum framed gasket available at the dealer, or sometime in the future you'll be tearing it down again.

Not the whole lower manifold, just the the gaskets between it and the heads...and don't forget to get the TB gasket as well.

No, a new TB gasket is included with the new UIM.

the most important thing to do is the lower gasket because all serie2 3800 have this problen that claim a lot of engine
