No idea to be honest, I was asked to take it for removal when offering to haul things for a friend to the incinerator with my load(I dont get trash pickup, i plumb fill my trailer and then dump it a couple times a year), since I had room in my bed for a few things. I was asked if i could do something with this random axle their uncle replaced, and I asked what it was from, found out, and then was like its light enough I could carry it on my own (Heavy tho), I figured if its wrecked to oblivion, I could use the housing as a very large weight for things like holding a tarp or a prank or maybe pull everything out, clean it up, and sell a maybe still good housing and cover , etc.
One person thinks the pinion failed at speed, then the carnage ensued.
Im thinking it ran out or very low on fluid and it wasnt in good condition, the thing had shown no evidence of being dumped out of the pinion opening, it was sitting level where it evidently was probably removed, and it was seriously only filled with maybe a cup of fluid that was pitch black and little watery (weather probably thinned what little was there as it was outside)
Which, I suppose that could have caused the failure. based on the melted bearing id bet on pinion seal bad, never addressed, high mileage never changed fluid
That would explain why there is no yoke or anything left in the opening for the pinion including a seal LOL
Do you think this was the pinion bearing?
