Default A Volkswagen Golf?

Tonight I was driving down KMD in the far right lane going home when this guy in a Golf tries to pass me on the left lane. He is moving pretty darn fast and I had seen him before at the gas station while filling up. So he tries to pass me and I say, try to test the bonnie and he does and I step on it and he never passes me. The we get to the upcoming light, and I say to myself, oh here we go. I keep my distance from the line while he is hugged right up on it, the light turns green and we go. He is about a half car on me and i am inching up on him quickly. The he slows down because of a car in front of him in his lane and I go whizzing by. He ducks into my lane and follows me. The 2 lane street goes into a one lane street and he tried to get around me to get in front of me to get into the one lane street, so he is on my back bumper when I step on it and he never touches me. At the next red light I turn right, once I hit another 2 lane street I am gone, I see him waiting for a car to go by to get onto the street while I am already 1 light ahead of him and getting to my next light where I take another right to go home. I look in my rearview and he is zooming and I mean zooming trying to catch up with me, he had to be a 1/4 mile behind me and he caught up quick. He ended up going straight while I headed home. when I got to the second 2 lane street I thought he would turn right when I I did and try to pass me again, he wanted to but again he had to wait for a car, once he hit the street I was to far gone. I was thinking because he was moving ungodly quick that the car might be a VR6 GTI because it was fast. I was a golf nonetheless, but damn fast car. Nice race. The golf was a much newer, like very high 90'* model.

Golfs I think are the milder version and I believe are 4door only (someone correct me on this) GTi'* are 2doors and are the sportier ones. Newer GTi'* have a 1.8T 150HP or 180HP, depending on year, or the 2.8 VR6 (174 12valve or a 200HP 24valve). Sounds like you had fun.

I very much doubt it was a VR6 GTI, but it was moving fast, but I did beat it though, so it had to be just a fast golf other then a GTI. There is no way I would even bother with a VR6, it would mop the floor with most cars, cause damn are they fast. I have a clip of a GTI passing a Civic SI going 95 miles per hour without even trying. I have wanted one pretty bad for a while.

Maybe it was a 1.8T, I heard they are really good poweplants to add mods too.... but lack a little on the stock side of things. :P

yeah it amazes me how powerful my car is for being 14 years old. And it'* not even a series 1 L27, it is just a regular L27. And it'* friggin torquey for having 182,000 miles on it. If I am going between 35-60mph, and I hit the gas, I put myself back in my seat pretty bad, it freaks me out sometimes. I only have a new cat back exhaust, expensive plugs and wires, and a nice intake and that is about it for mods for me, and i blow alot of cars away, and I honestly thought this golf would take me, if it was a 1.8L Turbo, and if it was a VR6 GTI, I wasn't even gonna bother racing him, because I know I would of gotten my *** handed to me. Those cars are soo damn fast, I have a clip of a VR^ GTI blowing away a Civic SI at 95 mph on the highway, the civic I think was doing 115mph and the VR6 had 4 car lenghs on him, it freaked me out how fast those cars really are.

Your motor (and mine) would be the LN3, not the L27

Your mileage and mine are really similar (no more than 5k mi apart)... yes, the torque is nice, but weight is really holding us back - maybe moreso with me being an SSE :(

Question: How are them Denso Iridiums? I know (and other members here) for a fact that Bosch Platinums (+4'* in my case) SUCK majorly. I stick to AC Delco Rapidfires. Interestingly enough, I was able to exchange less-than week-old +4'* in exchange for the Rapidfires... aren't they a no-return/exchange thing? Gotta love Canadian Tire :P

You guys might want to watch it before you take on a 1.8T that you know is chipped. Chips on a turbo car can make mad power... from the existing 150 or 180 @ flywheel or whatever to 200+ at the wheels? Yipe

I would definately stay away from modded 1.8T'*. They can be made quick fairly easily, because as with any other forced induction car, a little more boost goes a long ways!

Although, I did **** off a Turbo beetle earlier today...I would assume completely stock. The lady was going 20mph in a 55, so I began to pass her as soon as it became a passing zone and she decided she didn't want me to pass, so she went WOT. So I pressed the gas down all the way. At this point we were staying fairly even, but then I realized the car was in 2nd gear and wasn't planning on downshifting anytime soon and I was only going ~30mph. So I reached over and threw the shifter back to 1, then the car took off. Obviously I shifted to 2nd as necessary, but I was pissed for a second because I thought the old lady in the lime green beetle was gonna beat me! Needless to say, as soon as I got home, I put my modified boost controller back on the car, because I got sick of that stock crap real quick. (I put an extra boost controller we had lying around on the car that wasn't modified for more boost because with the <10*F temperatures the modified one was causing the car to overboost (when it gets more boost than the computer is programmed to allow, so it hits a fuel cut), and since it was warmer out today (33*F) I put the modified one back on after I almost got beat by a Beetle!)
