a very unfortunate event happened this sunday =[ - Page 3 - GM Forum - Buick, Cadillac, Chev, Olds, GMC & Pontiac chat

General GM Chat When starting new posts, please specify YEAR, MAKE, MODEL, ENGINE type, and whatever modifications you have made. Chat about all things GM (and related cars). Off-topic stuff should be in the Lounge, and all Model specific mechanical problems should be posted in the proper forum.

I used a come along and attached that to two car tie down straps. (3" super duty ones).

I looked at the front and decided which parts were furthest back. Then noticing that the strut tower brace was in the proper place still, I used that as a refrerence point. Measured my 97 and then the 95.

In your case it looks like one section of the middle is the worst spot. I'd start there. Only try to bring it straight with the majority of the front. Then pull from the outter edges where the radiator stops. You'll see the obvious factory bends in the front piece. That'* where I went afterwards. Looking at where the rad support meets the fender/frame mine was bent up. With pressure pulling the rad support forward I tapped them down with a hammer to put the metal back in place.

Took a lot of different pulls as one side was worse than the other. But slowly and surely it will and can move. I think it took me about 2 or so hours. After that..all the parts lined up rather well and I was pleased or a first try and pulling this much damage out.

I lucked out on parts. Headlights and grill were supplied. All I had to pick up was a fender, hood, plastic radiator support and the headlight brackets. ....and because green was the most popular color for GM in the 90'*...it was all the right color.

Oh ...and the dash/windshield also had to be swapped out.

Baggies blew.

OW. I must have gotten severely lucky that my bags didn't blow. I think I had that crappy thin aftermarket hood to thank for that one. the new OEM hood I have now is so much thicker then the one that was on the car.

i did some work on the bonneville between my classes to day, i removed what was left of the headlights and a few other parts, i found out that the tabs on my fenders that hold the headlights on broke too so im going to need new fenders, now my question is how do i take off the fenders?

(ill get some pics up soon)
