Your Tach is off boss... Trust me on that...

with the 2.84 gears you should be doing 1450 at about 55... and about 1800-1900 at 70-75.... I was blown away while I was watching my 91 with a scantool... I was doing 46 at 1350-1400rpms Yes those Taller gears get a little better milage..

We did the math once for what the gearing was and what the engine RPM would be at 100 mph and I think we came up with 2900 Rpms

My 1990 eighty eight recently did 26 mpg while granny driving in the city. I could probally pull off 28 if i had control of 4th gear kick in. I might get 30 on the highway. I think its the nature of the beast and there is no stopping it but to drive slow.
