SSsuperchargedEi 02-22-2005 04:24 PM

You'll find a lot of turbocharged cars that are putting SERIOUS power to the ground (GNs, Supras) only have a single turbo. A BIG single turbo.

A big single turbo is more better for higher total power output than having two smaller ones. The common thing to do with 1993+ Twin Turbo Supra owners is to convert to a big fat single when they're ready to put down considerably more than stock.

However, the bigger the turbos, the more the lag.

...which is why street cars have either a middle-sized turbo or if its a twin-turbo, a smaller one (helps slay the lag monster off the line) and a larger one (which kicks in when the smaller one loses breath). After owning three turbo cars (Volvo 760, Dodge Daytona, and Chrysler LeBaron), I think I would much rather have a supercharger. Maintanence was a pain on those cars, plus when the seals went out on the turbo in the 'Baron, it couldnt be driven unless you wanted to smog the mosquitos out of existance. Which wouldnt be bad thing, unless you are a mosquito.
