Twin Turbo 3.8 ?!?!
When I was working today, a car salesman from one of the dealerships down the street came in. I stupidly said I was looking for a car (I think it's something deep down psychologically...) Anyways, trying to get out of his spiel, I told him I liked Bonnevilles. He proceeds to tell me how reliable the 3.8 is, blah blah blah (preaching to the choir, lol  ) But he ALSO tells me that he heard they put twin turbos on one, thus making a monster out of it. Can anyone substantiate this blatently tenuous rumor?

never only NA or SC for the bonne

Twin turbos on a 3.8 or twin turbos on a Bonneville

Knowledge is one to be recken with, yes yes (Yoda Voice) |
There was only a turbo on like 200 Bonnevilles in 1989. Its been posted on here. The chances of you finding one is like the chance of me having a GF by tomarrow. Pretty much nill. I think hes thinking about the Buick Regal Gran National GNX. The fastest production car of the 80s.

Yes, there were alot of turbo 3.8's. In the Grand Nationals as stated, and alot of them were converted to twins by their owners. None were produced in that manner by Buick.
|
Yea Bill's right.... no Bonnie's ever came stock with turbos.... and even the big badass GNX only had 1 stock..... but some folks added a 2nd one... :)
twin turbos eh??? |
those turbo 3.8s are awsome... a friend of mine has a rosewood t type with less than 10k on the clock and those miles are mostly burnouts for videos and local tv shows
|
As stated above, there have been many GNs with 3.8's that were TT'd and he may have been thinking about that. I've never heard of a turbo Bonnie (that was proven). Although, hey you never know whats in store for 8-Ball ;)

There's always the 1989 turbo SSE featured in a Car and Driver article. But that wasn't factory.

theres a decent sleeper for ya. was that somebody's playtoy, or did pontiac actually roll those out? |
an aftermarket company made them. Read the article.
|
didn't the cyclone have a twin turbo v6?
|
that and the typhoon had single turbo 4.3's
|
You'll find a lot of turbocharged cars that are putting SERIOUS power to the ground (GNs, Supras) only have a single turbo. A BIG single turbo.
|
A big single turbo is more better for higher total power output than having two smaller ones. The common thing to do with 1993+ Twin Turbo Supra owners is to convert to a big fat single when they're ready to put down considerably more than stock.
However, the bigger the turbos, the more the lag. |
