Default Trans Questions

Is it normal for my trans to shift hard when its cold. My 93' doesn't, but my 97' sure does. Another thing is the torque converter will not lock up the first five minutes of driving and thats even after letting the car warm up for a while. Then it will SLOWLY lock up. Is all this normal?

Shifting hard while driving? Or shifting hard when selecting reverse or drive or both? My car shifts hard into both Drive and Reverse when it'* cold. As it warms up it get'* better. As for the TCC....My car does the same thing, and wierd thing is I just noticed it this afternoon after work.....It'* also reallly touchy on staying in OD on flat ground...

It will shift hard when it'* cold out. The computer knows the temp of your car from the ECT and delays shift points. It might also bump up the pressure a little to make sure the clutches hold. Same thing with the torque converter clutch. It will only turn on above a certain speed and temperature.
