Welcome to my world. I was actually about to pull the SLE'* motor and drop it in the Zilla when I lost 3rd gear last month.

You'll find a lower-mileage unit. They're out there. Then you'll have a core for rebuild. The good news is that whatever you invest in a rebuild will be a SOLID investment. The car will outlive you at that point.

Ok, my next question is does anyone have a list of trannys that would fit in my car. I have come across some 4t60es but they are not out of a bonneville. Which ones will fit and what needs to be done to make them fit? thanx guys

Sorry to hear this, TJ. Keep your chin up and make sure to keep an eye toward the bigger picture. You have a long life ahead of you and many more cars to own in the coming decades. If you really want another 92-99 Bonnie, I'm sure you'll find one within the next few years.

This sucks for me, too. First I lost Cooney for competition, and now I lost you! No worries, though. Focus on the stuff that'* important in the long term, and you'll find a way to get another ride.

Ohhh no ben, you havent lost my competition yet. A tranny will be in this car and it will be back at the track this summer. And now knowing that the tranny was that close to being gone makes me think that is why my gas milage and probably 60 foot times were so bad. It was probably slipping pretty bad. Also will i be able to see that tag from another neath the car?

Find another transmission for the interim. Take yours and rebuild it. I've learned a great deal on how these things work by tearing it apart and semi-assembling it myself. Is it hard? Aside from the weight issue, no...not really.Though you DO have to be comfortable with a ratchet and snapring pliers. Just follow the FSM and the ATSG book, and you too can be a transmission building fiend

edit: WOOHOO....L36!!
