I don't have mine done but have a buddy who does, I'm not sure if its a primary offense but they will find a reason to stop you if they want to, not sure of the laws where you are but in OH they have to be visible at 500 feet, not too sure whether is says something specifically about tinting

basically it just draws more attention like a sound system or exhaust

cops dont usually have to try to hard to find a reason to pull me over cuz im always beatin pretty hard. i got 2 12" kicker L5'* in a 5 cubic foot ported box, so im always drawing attention to myself. ive never really had too much trouble with the cops tho. i usually see them n turn it down b4 they realize whos makin all the noise lol. my brother has his tail lights and headlights tinted on his truck and i dont think hes had any trouble. jus wonderin tho. thanks

yah, if your not doing anything too crazy they leave you alone, but its one of those things they can throw on to your ticket if they really want to

Just thinking out loud here: In the 1992-1994 (or '95?) series, the SSE/SSEi models used a factory-tinted version of the standard SE/LE lenses, so that you don't see the bright red/amber/clear lenses; they're all smoked instead. It was a bolt-in swap to replace SE/LE with SSE/SSEi units, if I remember right.

Can you do something similar with your '97? Seems like it might be easier to just cannibalize a '97 SSE junqueyard donor, if that'* the effect you're looking for.

they actually make a translucent spray on tint now made for headlights and taillights. i just bought a can of that which was only like $12. and one can will probly do like 2-3 full cars. im only doing my taillights tho cuz the front looks better all clear. you can get a can at oreillys. its just called VHT Nightshade spray. Some stores might have to special order it tho.

I have a 94 SSEi... with the "tinted" taillights.. and there are like 2 others in town and I tend to laugh at all the other bonnies in the area that dont have the lights cuz they look funny to me.... and i really REALLY mean no offense to those with the regular lights... its just my presonal opinion

another note tho... there is a old post... not sure where i couldnt find it quickly so look for it but i believe i remember it saying that there isnt much difference between the series 1 and series 2 cars ... so the tinted lights off a 94 ish ssei SHOULD mount to a 97 or vice-versa if you can find some.

just my 2 pennies

tlsheff, the spray tint i have makes the lights look a lot darker than yours do. it makes them actually look black, but they still shine almost just as bright.

You can swap tails if you swap trunk lids. Remember to get the trunk lid hinges while you are at it. They are slightly different. Jimmyfloyd pioneered the swap as far as I know.

Andy, I don't think the 92-95'* had any tint, but they did have lines or grids that added a much darker look to them.

I'd be a fan of tinting if you don't go too dark for safety. Cops though..they'll have their own thoughts about it.
