For the record, the 90 SSE had approximately 485,000 kilometers which is 304,370 miles, and based on the fact that there was no indication the motor was on it'* last legs, and that I could still burn rubber, and it didn't burned maybe less that 1/4 of a quart every 5000 kilometers which is 3125 miles, I figured the car could have gone to about 600,000 kilometers before giving me any problems.......touch wood. I changed the oil ever 5000 kilometers and sometimes left it until 8000 kilometers which wasn't very often and did on occasion use STP oil treatment about once every year and Slick 50 Once every 6 years. I still say that with conventional oils such as Castrol, Valvoline, and other brand name oils, unless you’re driving the car hard which I didn’t is there really a need to pay the price of synthetics?
NOw on the other hand if synthetic oils where 75% off, I would buy it.......I'm just a frugal type of guy and I admit it.

To me you can't just look at the dollars. If a synthetic allows me to change my oil every six months instead of three, being a busy guy I will gladly pay the extra $30 a year for synthetic to forgoe the extra 3 hours of messing with changing oil. And that doesn't factor in having to drop off oil less often at the local parts store.

Right now I have Havoline in the car... Doing a lot of short trip driving... So I will change it again before the Road trip in may, It will then get the synthetic again... I always use synthetic when i go on the road..
But yes I see where you are coming from... Just for that Note the 91 SSE has Dino Mobil in it and the 91 LE has Havoline dino in it as well as its an inner city car...

From a cost standpoint, I can get Castrol, Penzoil, Valvoline on sale at about $8.00 per gallon Canadian. I can get Synthetic oil relativly same quality at about $24.00 Canadian per gallon. That'* 3 times the amount, and I wouldn't change the oil every 15,000 to 20,000 (3 times the price hense 3 times the length before oil changes) kilometer'* with Synthetic oil. Do most of you that use Synthetic oil changet it that often, If to then maybe I need to reconsider?

Frank... I am anal about oil changes... Even when I use Synthetic.. I like the oil to look like Honey all of the time.. If the oil gets dark like it did recently I feel like I have done the car wrong... But thats really not the case... I could have gone longer with the synthetic, but I figured 6-7000 miles was enough... I normally change out at 2500-3000 Miles no matter what oil I use..
I'll say it again... I myself am hard on cars... I do change the oil more than most would

I run Castrol Syntec blend.
The 94 also ran Castrol Syntec Blend and when I pulled the LIM it was clean and no sludge. The 94 had about 190K on it at the time the LIM was done
The 97 however had a bit of sludge and was using regular oil. This is what it looked like after pulling the LIM with 94K on the clock

I personally have always used Mobil 1 Full Synthetic in all of my cars, and I still change the oil every 3,000 miles. This last time I went more like 6,000 miles but that happens like once in a blue moon. But I drive 3,000 in a month in a half.

Holy cow, synthetic is three times the price of regular oil where you live? The price of oil has gone up so much in alot of places, they almost *match* the price of synthetic. Here, there'* not much difference in the price at all.
P.*. - any brands that up the price of synthetic as significantly as full on oil is daft.
