I've heard it'* usually a bad idea on older trannies, but I'm sure someone else can tell you more.

I'll be running Mobil1 as soon as I can get around to a change. My '97 acts up when it'* hot, so I want all the protection I can get. It is about $6-7 a quart, so I don't know that everyone would benefit.

Check out the BITOG forum (Bob is the Oil Guy), and do a search. More info there than you can read in a night!

Other than M1, Amsoil is a popular choice.

Yessir!

IF your trans is already slipping, then you might or might not accelerate its death. I'll probably just do a fluid/filter change (5 quarts), and add a drain plug to the trans pan while it'* out. Then I'll drive it for a while, and drain and refill again with Mobil1 ATF. It wouldn't ALL be Mobil1, but a good portion of it would be. Close enough for me without doing a complete flush. I'd also add a bottle of Lubegard Red. It'* one of the few truly useful additives.

Where? The BITOG guys have a lot more real experience and scientific data to back it up, and I haven't read negative things about using it. Do a search and read the many Mobil1 ATF posts. I did, and it took a while!

EDIT: Of course, my luck, the forum seems to be down. It was working 10 minutes ago! Try back, it'* worth it.
