Default Switching from the old coolant to Dexcool....

I've done this on the VW'* and had no problems. I'd like opinions on how you guys feel about switching from the old stuff to the new.

Does your engine currently have Dexcool in it? If so, flush it out good and refill. If you have another type of coolant then you need to flush really good, then flush again, and again. You need to make sure all the old coolant is out. Mixing Dexcool with another type of coolant will cause it to sludge up.

No, it has the green stuff in it, and I want to switch over to the Dexcool. I already have the stuff to wash out all the green stuff, because if Dexcool and the green stuff meet, it gels. That can cause MAJOR problems!

Exactly, that'* why I said flush it over and over. As for dexcool, I see no problem with it. I choose green simply because I find the green easier to see if I have a leak and when I'm working on the engine.

I've found the VW'* run cooler with the dexcool in it (VW calls it G12 but it'* the same thing just a different color). I need to run cooler down here because cars hate 115+ degree heat.

Have you thought about changing the thermostat? Not sure what year or make you have but many have a 195*. The thermostat is going to determine how hot or cool the engine runs. Dropping to a 180* will be OK when driving, but sitting still will still get hot because the fans wont turn on until around 215* But that can be changed in the tune by someone with tuning software.

I have a new thermostat and a lower temp sensor for the vans to kick on. I just want it to run cooler. it'* a 1990 Buick Park Ave. Only 60K on it.
I'm not currently having a problem with it overheating.. I'm trying to prevent it.

Personally I don't feel the coolant will help that much. Actually water is a better coolant then coolant. I run 50/50 in my engine and 33/66 in my intercooler.

I personally preferre the green because when dex cool goes bad it looks like runny clumpy dog crap and it is easier to see and smell but that'* my opinion
