i meant positive 2 psi. i know the car could use a tune up (all original plugs and wires at 65,000 miles) but also it seems boost-related issue. does your car run even worse if you use the "perform shift" button?

well, take it for a ride in "performance shift" and see how it goes. mine will barely move with it floored.

If you need a tune up, please do one.
Vacuum leaks. The age of our cars makes them prone to things like vacuum leaks. Follow all the vacuum hoses around the engine bay (remember under the airbox and at the charcoal canister). Touch the hoses where they are rubber, does it leave black on your hand? change it out. Cheap easy fix if you get a foot or so of each size from the (cut your own length) area at the parts store.

The symptoms you are describing sound more like misfire at WOT than something related to the */C. Pull the belt off the */C and try some WOT and I bet you still have the hesitation issues. Spark plugs, plug wires, coils and faulty injectors are all likely suspects. Billboost is right on the money when he tells you to do a tune up.

Get your DTC'* pulled to see if you are getting misfires, and if they are random or limited to one or two cylinders. If you can pinpoint the misfire to one cylinder, you can start moving things around (plugs, coils, injectors) to see which component the problem moves with. For example, if the misfire is on cylinder 5 you switch the coil pack for cylinder 5 with one of the other coil packs. If the problem moves, the coil pack is the issue. If the problem does not move, it is something else.

On mine it was the injector on cylinder 5. When the same thing happened a couple of years ago, it was the spark plug on cylinder 4 with a cracked ceramic housing.

Read the write ups in the tech section on testing coils, wires, etc. I notice Danthurs is some excellent stickies on diagnosing various trouble codes that will also help you.

the only problem is that ricksuave'* bonnieville is an OBD 1 and mine is OBD 1.5. so both don't really give a code unless something is terribly wrong. I have never experienced a service engine soon light

You could still try pulling the */C belt, and see if you have the hesitation at WOT. Finding your problem is a process of elimination, and if you still have the hesitation with the */C out of the picture, it helps to narrow down the list of suspects. I am still willing to bet this is not an */C problem, and will come down to plugs, wires, coils or injectors.
