Default struts/shocks for '92 SSE */c - brand, part number, cost?

About 2 weeks ago I noticed what sounded like a tire noise on my '92 SSE */c so I took the car in and got 2 new tires to replace the 2 that were just about worn out anyway. Now I have 2 brand new tires and 2 almost new tires, all of which are Kelly Navigator Platinums, P225/60R16, but unfortunately the noise is still there. It'* hard to hear, but can most easily be heard from roughly 20-45 MPH, but only with the windows closed because the noise isn't loud enough to hear when there'* outside traffic or road noise. The noise is kinda like a huh-huh-huh noise that increases and decreases with speed, and doesn't change around turns or when braking. The noise occurs when coasting in neutral too. There'* no squeaking, humming, clunking, thumping, vibration, shuddering, or any other symptoms while driving, turning, or braking, and I can't feel any vibration.

I took the car in again yesterday, and they put it on a lift and spun all 4 wheels and looked at the treads and concluded that the 2 almost new tires were already cupping on the outside treads due to bad struts. The struts are about 4 1/2 years old, and have roughly 40,000 miles on them. One of the rear shocks is leaking oil/grease in the rubber boot, and they said these should be replaced too.

They recommended Monroe struts for the front and KYB GR2 air shocks for the rear because this car has the auto leveling system, and the estimate was $650.

What do you guys recommend?

I would recommend AC Delco struts, that'* what I put on mine when the originals wore out at 120,000 miles. If they have to be changed every 120,000 miles, that is satisfactory. And the car has the same ride that it had before the old struts went bad.

Get a second, or even a third opinion without giving any clues that would point to the struts. See what the other shops say.

Have you done the bounce test yet on your struts?

we've gone with Monroe struts as replacements on all of our cars (excluding mine and the 00SSEi) and all of those had an excellent ride, better than stock I'd say.. rode smoother and handled better than stock. I'm going with monroe sensa-trac this spring because all four of my struts are shot now

I've heard, if I'm not mistaken, they (GM) don't have the air shocks for the back anymore. I know I need new front struts and will just have it done at a GM shop, but what shocks will I get for the back? Should I take it to Monroe for the shocks and just let GM do the front?

I don't think that'* true because I just ordered some last year, brand new. They are still putting them on many of their cars, too.

Ok, I don't know why i thought that was true. I'll just take it to a GM shop and get it done when I get the $$. Hopefully I can get it all done for less than $700.

Yes!! That'* it! It was you Don. You told me a while back they didn't make those CCR struts. I wasn't going completely insane

But no, I have ELC but not CCR. I'd assume I'd be fine then.
