Faulty Injectors/Fuel system & backfiring...
This is somewhat related to the "Horrific Intake Failure" thread. Here'* an excerpt from what someone wrote about it on that forum:
This is basically a question due to my "worst case scenario" thinking, and because I haven't really seen many threads on back-firing and the problems it causes.
How would you know if a fuel injector was leaking (or fuel pressure regulator)? Would a ticking noise from an injector(*) be the sign of a failing injector?
Regular use of fuel injector/ fuel system cleaner should help keep the system clean, but how common is backfiring for our cars? And what are the usual effects of it? This guy says after 60,000 miles, many cars see this problem. But I don't know how true that is. And I'm sure the whole upper intake blowing open and cracking is not that commom (or is it).
Please post your experiences/knowledge on this. Who has had a backfiring with their Bonnes? What happened as a result, and so on... This should be some good information for the whole club. Thanks!
I a not surprise to see this, i have seen this many time. the cold weather is not the cause of this problem. this problem was cause by a bad fuel system. what happen here is sometime the fuel injector or fuel pressure regulator will leak. when the car is shut off. the fuel will sit in the intake manifold port until the car is start again. since fuel is in the intake manifold when the motor is crank the flame from the combustion chamber will travel into the intake manifold causing a BACK-FIRE. many time cars with over 60,000 mile will see this problem. when you replace the intake manifold please make sure you replace all injector or the defected ones and the fuel pressure regulator. this problem was cause by a back fire due to faulty injection system.

The weird thing about it is the guy said he had just jumped the car, started it and it "revved uncontrollably" and backfired "God knows how many times." I'd wonder what his hood looks like, but he said he didn't notice the intake until the next day.
