He'* got the magnavox.

Does it backfire on the intake? And like make the airbox shake and make a loud pop? Mine did that all the time, then it went away, and it did it all up till I changed my ICM + coilpack. If your'* is backfiring out of the exhaust, it may be a different problem, but the ignition system is a likely problem. A tune up may be in order. A new set of plugs and wires.. or if you want to be cheap, make sure your wires aren't touching at all.. if they are, make sure you separate them.

88/89 coils are interchangable IF the 88 has the LN3 [the coils will be mounted in the SAME location as yours, to be compatable.] If the coils are on top of the rear of the engine, then it WILL NOT work. There are three bolts underneath the coilpack bracket, to remove BOTH the coilpack and ICM. The 6 on top will only remove the coilpack. Remove both, because our ICM'* tend to fail with the coilpack. I believe the bolts are 7/16 [or 10mm], but I could be wrong. It'* around that size, and you will need it in box head form, trust me on this one.

"new plugs " <- first thing I would check for is for a wire on the wrong plug (would be two).
