Default A story about GM Parts Direct . . .

My parents were kind enough to order me a new door seal and then ship it to me up in Canada. When I got it, it was the wrong color. So I shipped it back and my parents called GM Parts Direct for an exchange. They immediately refused. They refuse refund and they refuse to exchange it reason being: we were 2 days over the 30 day limit. My parents explained that it took too long to receive the part from GM, then ship the part from southern Minnesota to south eastern Ontario, Canada . . . GM didn't care. So I tried going to a local dealer and asking if they could order me the correct part and then return the one I had if I paid the difference and shipping. They said no. Why? GM discontinued the part number. The guy at Pontiac said they do this so that parts cannot be returned. To begin with I was frustrated at my dad for getting the wrong color door seal, but I later found out when he called the order in GM did not give him any color choices over the phone. So now my parents are out $80 because GM screwed up the initial order and refused to make right on it.

So buyer beware.

And if anyone needs a light grey door seal I've got a brand new one for $50 + Shipping.

I assume your seal is supposed to be black?

Not sure why it would matter too much since you would only see it when the door is open, but that is kinda crappy.

It'* true that GMPD will never win any awards for customer service from what I've experienced and heard from others. I personally try to use other suppliers when possible.

I've never had an issue with GMPD, but I really do my legwork before placing an order. I have also heard other horror stories.

Before placing any order I go to my local dealership and have them look up the part number on their PCs. I write down the part number. Since the GM database is basically the end-all, that'* the part number I use to order from GMPD. I've never had a mix up.

And, never use the GMPD part number look up. I've seen discrepencies between their catalog and the dealer part numbers.

I think this is part of the reason you have to agree to quadruple checking the part number before getting to the catalog on GMPD.

Also..isn't GMPD actually an enterprising dealer ...that way they can see stock in any dealership in the US to pull parts from. This allows them to get items that could be discontinued etc.

I did the legwork when ordering from them. The prices were better than my local dealer.. however the shipping costs do leave a lot to be desired.

A great alternative to using GMPD is going to a local AC Delco supplier. There are several around Flint. Most times, the prices from them are better than GMPD.

I never order through GMPD or a dealership, always the local Delco supplier. They are helpful and cheap, if they dont have a part in stock it is only 2 days at most to get it.

Yeah I know I'm bringing this post up from the dead but I couldn't get online until now. I just moved (again) and now I'm in Buffalo, New York. Love it here . . . but a car is pretty much pointless with how good (and cheap) public transportation is.

Anyhow, yes my door seal is supposed to be black, and on my Bonneville (1995) the door seal is visible from inside the car, even when the door is shut.

I'll remember that AC Delco deal. That sounds like a really smart idea. I'm trying not to invest a lot of money in this car since several auto body shops said my strut will be a lost cause in about 3 years.

I'm just gonna resell the wrong door seal and try to get at least some money for it back.

Anyway I hope everyone else'* Bonnie is in good repair.
