Post Spray Paint Fun

I got bored today and decided to paint my spare engine cover and cross bar.

I used some Greased Lightning Orange to clean the cover up, it worked really well.

I used some sandpaper on it to try to allow the paint to stick better. One coat of plastic primer next, but I don't have a picture of that step. Then I used 3 coats of red engine enamel. I think I might end up painting the lettering black so it stands out more.

Used some metal primer on the bar, then painted that red too.

I also got around to disabling my automatic headlights. I often drive my girlfriend and other friends home late at night, and I like to be able to turn off the headlights before I pull in the driveway so I don't wake anyone up. And besides, I like to be in full control of my car.

Should add a nice extra touch to the engine bay. I think off setting the letters with a different color will stand out nice.

here is mine: (keep in mind, mine isn't done with a spray can, but even still yours should look real good with the letters done!)

How did you disable the automatic headlights? I know our cars are different but it might give me an idea of how to do it on mine.

^^^ I know on my car at night I can turn the lights all the way to on, then off, then up to parking lights and the headlights will go off and just leave the parking lights on.. try that.

II can turn just the markers on yea and that turns the lows off but he said he disabled the auto headlights, which I assume means where it turns the lights on when it detects its dark and to have headlights at all you'd have to manually turn on the switch

-Took off the trim panel up in the front of the dash.
-Found the light sensor (I forget it'* exact name).
-The sensor is in a socket just like a 194-sized light bulb, you pull it out of there just like a bulb (yours may be different, not sure).
-IIRC, the sensor works by measuring the amount of light outside, and creating resistance so the car can adjust the brightness of your headlights accordingly. If you can bypass the sensor, there will be no resistance in the line and the car will "think" it'* really bright out all the time, the auto lights will not come on.
-I played around with different ways of bypassing it, and I ended up taking a small piece of aluminum foil and folding it over the base of the sensor, and plugged it in with the foil on it. It seems to work just fine.

I got the idea from this thread.

Hope that helped.
