I've got a set of freebies...and they work great in tight places..but you have to have the room to use them. Never would be doing the backs with them. And the metal shields would never give enough room to hold the boot

I think their only use could be to break the boot from the porcelain. If you think that they could defeat the "twist-back" problem that Archon mentioned, then yes, they might be worth it. Personally, I think regular pliers work ok. Twist the boot with the pliers, hold the boot with the other hand, then twist with the pliers again. That'* how I broke the boots loose.
