lol but im sure if you wanted to weld a thick steel plate in that area it would prevent it but im not sure if you can really prevent something like that.

Sucks!. Hard to protect against an offense that that makes the alarm think the key is opening the lock. People think up new ways to get around anything.
Um, sorry to say but you probably had a really shitty alarm. I can unlock my key door on my car with my own key, but the moment I pull the door handle, the alarm goes off. The moment my hood opens or my trunk opens, the alarm goes off. My trunk lock is shaved and a plate is riveted onto where the lock was, and you can't get my amps out of my car without two wrenches and at least 5 minutes of unscrewing large bolts for the rear strut tower bar, with you practically sitting inside the trunk trying to get to them.
I have a Viper 5902. Two way remotes up to 1 mile. It'* nice to have that, but then I only got that for the 1 mile remote start. Our cars are old enough that if anyone wants something out of them, it'* easy.
Heck, my first try to pop the lock open when I locked keys in it was less than 2 minutes. That'* without damage. The person that did yours wasn't trying to be nice about it. A slim jim would have opened yours in no time at all.
An alarm isn't always the best thing. It'll keep petty thieves out. If someone with brains wants your car, it'* gone.
