expect to pay $400-700 for a used tranny or $1400-$1700 for a rebuilt
look on your spare tire cover to get your RPO codes.. either list them all here, take a picture, or check to see yourself

yeah, check your codes, and if you want something quality and have the money, go for a remanufactured unit with a GOOD warranty, not just some 30 day thing.
I recommend Jasper, expect to pay around $2500 after all is said and done.

Uh Tony you suppose in the 98 Model year they made the SLE'* look like the SSE/SSEi'* and badged them accordingly

I have a 96 SSE (4T60E) and went the cheap route (junkyard trans). $900 installed. Lasted 22 days, replaced under warranty with another one. That one didn't make it to the end of the test drive. Third one is now being replaced after 4 months. I went with the reman this time for no other reason that it has a 2yr/24k warranty and since I don't know how to works on trannys, I am not taking the risk a FOURTH time. My opinion (emphasis on opinion) is that I would never again put a junkyard trans in any car I expect to keep, such as my 96 SSE. But that is just my OPINION after this bad experience.
