Didn't want to pull another thread off topic.
Before we've had small off topic'* regarding siping. I'd like to hear from you folks that have added siping to your tires for added traction.

Bill (willwren) mentioned it is a big difference in all weather conditions. Does it increase tire wear, if so any idea on a percentage?

it doesnt increase wear what so ever and it does improve traction (When i use to work at discount tire) Siping tires has always been a benefit towards the customer most even come back and say thank you cause they noticed the difference in the rain and the snow. It usually costs about 8 dollars per tire in chicago

It DECREASES tread wear by allowing the tire to cool faster. Most tire manufacturers WANT you to have them siped.

I buy my tires at a local tire shop. They back them up warranty-wise 100%, and sipe them before they ever go on my car.

I believe that someone (thought it was willren, but i could be very wrong) said siping actually increases tire life because the little cuts keep the tires cooler which pronlongs life. Could be very wrong on that statement though.

also some tires come siped if u look closely to them but costs more :? its better to have the shop sipe them its way cheaper

BillBost, sounds like we have to find a place around here that does siping! Certainly sounds like it would be helpful for this upcoming winter. $8 a tire is pocket change if it prevents an accident.

Guys, this is as big of an advantage in the summer. Better grip, and much better cooling.

Mine were $15 a tire the first time, but my new set they siped for free since they had to warranty (prorate) my first set for treadwear.
