I do it too.

Me too. Here in the desert where it was ~134°F today, there is less heat produced by the motor and trans. Also, the engne idles just a little faster in N than D, so that front fan pulling air thru the A/C condenser keeps me cooler...kinda

Cool, i thought that I was the only one that did that! When I used to have my old 94 Intrepid ES, it had a problem idling when I was at stoplights. It wouldnt die or anything, it would just shake enough to bother me. As for longer waits, I also usually just throw it in park and shut her off.

I have a friend that drives an older mustang with a five speed and he kicks the tranny out of gear and releases the clutch at stoplights to relieve the pressure on the throw-out bearing. I guess every little bit helps.

we have idling laws here to but they are more so when parked in front of certain buildings that don't want vehicles running the whole time. since a lot of people here have annoying exhaust pipes.

That'* absolutely nutz that anybody would tell you it will damage your car. You can even shift into Neutral when moving. But damage your car? REALLY? That'* crazy. That'* like saying turning your steering wheel will damage your car.

I do it on long downhill runs but it looks like me and my friend may be alone on that one...
