Default Scan Question

I've heard that 93' is the last year you could hook up a scan tool under the dash. So in a 95' how would you hook one up?

93 was the last year you coud self diagnose the codes by "flashing" them. You could do it by sticking a paper clip in the right parts of the plug. I assume you need some kind of scan tool or computer for a 95.

I should read these posts better....I'm not sure where they plug the scan tools in, but my 97 has a plug under the dash so i figure thats still where they do it.

In the 95, you hook it up under the dash, in the same place. However you need a 16-pin cable, not a 12-pin cable.

95'* used OBD-1 programming but had the OBD-2 interface under the driver side dash.

I'm confused about the "pin". What is it and were do you get it?

To scan codes in an OBD 1 car, you can take a paperclip, and jump two connections, this will cause the computer to spit out your codes.

Oh... I see. With a 95' car you can't just hook up a scan tool and expect it to throw out codes, whereas with a 93' car you can. So, how do you get a OBD II converter for the 95'?

No, with both cars you can retrieve the codes with a scan tool. On the 93 and below, you can use a paperclip. You need an OBD-1 reader with a 16-pin cable for your car.

Try the actron CP-9110, CP-9111, and CP-9115.
