How bad is it for the tranny to shift it into drive while still slightly rolling backward as in backing out of a driveway/parking space assuming it doesn't "jerk"? I know a lot of people do it - I do if I'm in a hurry sometimes. Just a random thought I've had lately, any thoughts?

I've always thought of it as bad for the transmission. My dad always did and does it. Which is what I blame for the 1-2 second delay to go from reverse to drive.

Lately I've been trying to take the time to come to a full stop before changing directions - call me cautious I guess.

I do that all the time but at low low speeds, I don't feel any lurch or anything. I know it'* considered bad.

However, I have shifted from drive to reverse by accident while I was still moving...

This has never ever happened to me

I try not to do it too much, but sometimes it happens on the few times I back out of a parking space (I usaully back in so I pull out) or when I tear up a dirt or snow covered parkinglot.

I don't imagine it would be too good to make a habit of it

I always come to a co,plete stop before going from R to D

I value my tranny besides,my warranty just expired.

It doesn't really hurt it alll that much.....a lil bit, but over a LONG period of time before the symptoms would show up.

I go from reverse to neutral, then wait for the car to stop, then into drive.

i put it in neutral all the time in reverse and coast then drive...idk why i do it but i do

Don't do it,,,try to get in the habbit of stopping
