changed the oxygen sensor in my 96 ssei yesterday. revved it up it park and it cuts out at 4000 rpm .....revs drop......back to 4000...drop again. is this normal? i guess i never have revved it up hard in park before. im guessing the computer limits the rpms when not in gear? runs perfect on the road.

thats what i figured after i put my old o.*. back in and it still did it. funny i never noticed the car did that after having it almost 3 years. :?

My 91 Lumina Euro 3.1 had a rev limiter, 4K in park. And the speed governor is at 119 MPH.

It'* probably not a good idea to rev the car in park like that though.

Too True, the engine is designed to run underload, reving it in park can cause engine damage (even at 4k).

i agree. thas why it took me almost 3 years to find out about it. lol

Mine doesn't have one.. my car is too dumb.. I never go past 3k without her in gear. Although, I probably will at a stoplight one day.. next to a camaro with a big head.

I agree that free reving is a bad thing, but how is this different than what an engine dyno does? There is no load on that is there? Is engine dynoing bad for the motor? Maybe I should look at how thats done, i'm guessing there has to be some load on it, otherwise how would tell the amount of hp its putting out....

There is load on an engine dyno, but it'* not 4000lbs like your car experieces everyday. If you want i could dig up my Hot Rod magazine with the 4-5 page article on them
