Default remove key with ign on, is it possible?

i has just got to thinking the other day about my dads 70 elcamino and his 78 impy.. in the winter time with the impy he would always have me start it and bring the keys back in. i realize that locks have evolved alot since the 70'*, but is there any way of modifying a key in our newer cars to accommodate this? i realize that its not recommended and probably not feasible in cars with passlock but im just curious as to if its possible, and if not why not?

ive got a remote start on my car with stay running mode so its somewhat irrelevant but i just was brainstorming about it and i couldnt figure out why it would work in the old cars but not the new ones. double sided keys?

thanks alot guys.

The older keys and tumblers would wear to the point that one could slip the ignition key out of the lock cylinder.

Much harder to do since the 90s when GM changed keys and lock cylinders.

so basically, with a one sided key, the lock and key just wear out faster and leave enough room to get the key out. with a 2 sided key, i assume it would take a helluva lot of removals to accomplish this.

thanks for the info guys
