Dude, you did sweet on the price. I looked at it and my gut reaction was "price too high." But if you got them down to 9K, I think you did good.

Just to tell a story, I found by accident that a good way to get a lower price is to test drive the car, then decide that it was most definitely *not* the right car for you. Every car I've driven that I didn't like for some reason or another, the dealers almost beg me to buy it and start dropping the price by thousands. `Course, when that happened to me, I *really* didn't want the car, so it didn't really matter that they were dropping the price.

But I swear, the next car-of-my-dreams that I buy, I'm gonna test drive it, get out of the car, shake the salesman'* hand, and tell him "Thanks for your time, but I really don't like this car. I didn't like the feel of the way it drove, I think I'd rather keep on shopping and find something else." THEN I'll buy it when he dumps the price!

When I got my 97SE (with lots of the SLE upgrades), I test drove three different trim models of Bonneville. I drove a low-end SE with 15" steel wheels and hubcaps, then I drove my 97SE with lots of SLE upgrades, then I drove an SSEI, just to feel what I'd be missing if I didn't get the supercharger, and was privately most impressed with the middle-line SE with lots of SLE upgrades. I actually thanked them and left. The next morning they had the low end car advertised in the paper on sale about $2000 less than they had it marked, so I simply walked in and said I wanted the same sale on the middle Bonnie. They said no and offered it to me for $1500 less instead, so I left. On my way out the door they changed their mind and gave me my $2000 off price. Woo Hoo!

I've been very happy with my SE. I know I don't have the supercharger and all, but I'm 37 now, and my SE has well more than enough power than I need. I like my 16" 5-spoke star alloy facotry wheels, I like my cloth seats even better than leather (because it gets blazing hot in California) and I even like that I have the granny shifter rather than the console. I have more space up front. My upgrades have been a replacement of the entire factory sound system, Dunlop tires, a leather steering wheel cover, a K&N drop-in replacement air filter, new floor mats, and frankly, that'* it! I like it just the way it is!

(and we got my wife a loaded 2001 Grand Prix GT.)
